How to Become your own Best Friend

How to Become Your Own.jpg

One of the best choices you can make in your life is to become your own best friend. The earlier, the better. But don’t worry. It’s never too late.

I believe that we are souls in bodies that each have their own individual path. We can affect this path by setting up goals and visualize, but in the end, the universe has the last word. And it is always the best choice for you. The universe loves you deeply. And the universe has brought you here today. Welcome! Let me give you some advice I’ve learned on the way of becoming my own best friend and developed a healthy self-love.

What does it mean?

Being your own best friend means that you are stronger when you’re alone, when others are against you, you make the right choices for you and are more in peace within yourself. Sometimes the universe puts us in situations that are challenging because we need it. We might not understand it during the challenges but afterwards we realize how much we grew and how much we learned from the experience. Being our own best friend makes us tougher and stronger in our mind and soul to work through the challenges without giving up. We don’t hate ourselves and our bodies. We accept our flaws and are grateful for the talents we have been gifted. We have a positive outlook on life, we trust the universe and spread love and energy around us.

5 tips to become your own best friend

Here are 5 of the most important steps you can take in the journey of becoming your own best friend.

Practice gratitude

Everything starts with gratitude. You must learn the art of being grateful towards yourself, what you have and life itself. Only then you can grow. Gratitude and willing to develop and earn more in life is better without greediness. Start practicing gratitude. Take a few minutes a week or day depending how fast you want to go and think of all the things you are grateful for. In life, in your job, your partner – and yourself. Be grateful for all the good personality traits you have. Be grateful to your body and how it works for you. Many of us have things we want to change on our bodies, but please try to see the whole picture. Just because you change something on the outside, doesn’t it mean you’ll be a happier peson. Try to love your own unique body first.

Focus inwards – soul empowerment

Being connected to your soul, can give you so much happiness. I cannot stress this enough! If you have never really meditated, start as soon as you can! You don’t have to believe in anything like astrology or the soul. But you can pretend. When you see results, might start believing in something powerful within you. Connecting with your true self is not only through meditation. You can isolate yourself a few days, do trips and creative things by yourself. Simple, hang out with yourself. You’ll probably realize things about your life you never understood before. You’ll think clearly. And you’ll find a genuine happiness right where you are, whether you are far from your biggest goal or already there. It’s a really good sign when you find happiness just being by yourself.

Out with bad influences – in with good influences

Shut off influences from the outside that make you judge yourself. Liberate yourself from self-hate and judgement. Unfollow accounts on Instagram and Facebook that give you a negative view on your body and your life. Instead, follow accounts that really motivate you. Even better – less social media, more personal development. Read more books and articles in subjects you love and in personal development. In my opinion, you’ll gain more from that than scrolling through Kim Kardashian’s Instagram all the way back to 2014. Unless she is a positive role model to you, which is completely fine 🙂

Visualizing and plans

Where are you in life? Is it mediocre to you? Are you really where you want to be? Are you studying something you find interesting? Are you working with you passion? Do you love your partner? If you’re not exactly where you want to be, it’s time to take control over the situation and go on the journey towards your dream life. It requires more than a day. And it’s ok! Enjoy the journey and all that you get to experience. Life is more than an end goal.

  • Install the habit of visualizing. Write down in detail how you want every domain in life to look like. Visualize (imagine it in your head) regularly and your vision will constantly be in the back of your mind.
  • Make plans on how to get there. You might have heard about “The Law of Attraction”. It basically means visualize, believe and you shall receive. What they forgot was WORK. Yes you can’t receive all you want if you don’t step out the door. Start doing things to get closer to your goal. If you want to become a journalist, start freelancing and email blogs to do guest posts. If you want new friends, attend different types of events. If you take one step towards that goal, you’ll see how you’ll attract it much faster than if you stayed at home and wished.
  • Listen to your intuition and follow it. This is one of the hardest things I will tell you to do. I don’t even know if I do 100% as my intuition tells me. All I know is that every time I do, everything falls into place. Why can it be hard? Well sometimes, we might be in a totally comfortable situation and still feel uncomfortable. Like something’s wrong. We don’t get out of there because it’s so comfortable. But the feeling of discomfort will just grow. When you finally let go, you’ll be so liberated and relieved. Not until you hear your intuition (a.k.a. gut feeling) clearly and trust it fully, you will find yourself push through instead of letting go and you’ll do it until you can’t bare it anymore. When you let go, you will know in your heart it was the right decision to make.

Body empowerment

Lastly, take care of yourself! Give your body some loving as well, and not just through gratitude but through treatment. Nourish it with good food, less alcohol, more water and work out now and then. Do yoga, treat yourself a massage, paint your nails. Make yourself a body oil and rub it on the skin after a hot nice shower. Feel beautiful and have some alone time in front of the mirror. Admire what you see. Love what you see. Be happy in your own skin.

Summery

This is now over a thousand words, straight from my heart. Am I my best friend? Definitely! I love myself before expecting someone else to love me. Do I do all these things regularly? No, but I try. And so should you. Becoming your best friend takes time. See it as a process. Maybe you have to cry and work through hard things and that’s ok. Take your time. It will be worth it.

  • Practice gratitude towards everything in life and especially towards yourself
  • Focus inwards and connect with your soul
  • Cut on bad influences and replace them with good ones
  • Start visualizing, making plans and listening to your intuition
  • Love and nourish your body

Good luck on your journey x

Get To Know Me – Part 2

Get to know me - part 2.jpg

Read part one here.

Have you ever had a nickname? What is it?

Yes, my current one is Andie and to my mother I’m Lillis which comes from the word ‘liten’ and means small in Swedish. I used to have the nickname ‘Addizz’ when I was about 13. Yes, with two Z’s…

Do you like or dislike surprises? Why or why not?

I do like surprises, as long as they are good!

In the evening, would you rather play a game, visit a relative, watch a movie, or read?

Depends on what mood I’m in, but if my aim is to relax, watch a movie or read would be best.

Would you rather vacation in Hawaii or Alaska, and why?

As someone who has grown up with long winters and a temperature below – 10 Celsius, I feel more drawn to Hawaii.

Would you rather win the lottery or work at the perfect job? And why?

This is a tricky question. The perfect job would be entrepreneur but winning the lottery would give me the opportunity to invest in my idea. However, I could fail and lose all this money so I would should the perfect job. I would take smaller steps and learn by my mistakes but probably start earning a lot once I found the success formula.

Who would you want to be stranded with on a deserted island?

Probably my partner, I trust him to be smart 😛

If money was no object, what would you do all day?

Whatever I felt like doing! Build an empire, eat and travel probably.

If you could go back in time, what year would you travel to?

2014. I loved it!

How would your friends describe you?

A mysterious and ambitious girl who is more like 25+ than 20 haha.

What are your hobbies?

I don’t like this question as I never know what to say! Let’s say dancing, studying things like spirituality and loving.

What is the best gift you have been given?

Wow. I don’t know. Someone’s time. Life. Love.

What is the worst gift you have received?

I have no clue to be honest.

Aside from necessities, what one thing could you not go a day without?

My phone. I use it for both personal and business use.

List two pet peeves.

Dirty cutlery and people who stares at you even after you’ve given them an annoying look.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

In five years, I’m 25. I’m a full time entrepreneur with more than one business, I live with a partner, have a dog, maybe a car and I live in either France, Sweden, UK, US or Australia. Oh and this blog is huge!

How many pairs of shoes do you own?

Not many right now since I tossed some away when I moved and I haven’t done much shopping ever since. Like 5 or 6.

If you were a super-hero, what powers would you have?

That’s so hard. The power to heal anything, mastering the elements, invisibility… Many to choose from.

What would you do if you won the lottery?

Depending on how much, I would invest in my business, give some away to charity, save some for larger purchases and travel.

What form of public transportation do you prefer? (air, boat, train, bus, car, etc.)

Air! Then subway or car.

What’s your favorite zoo animal?

Leopard. But shouldn’t it say wild animal?

If you could go back in time to change one thing, what would it be?

There’s a lot of horrible things in history I would like to change but if it only regards my life it would be my mother’s choice of man to trust.

If you could share a meal with any 4 individuals, living or dead, who would they be?

Lady Gaga, Michael Jackson, Michelle Phan and Isabella Löwengrip. And they all are so different!

How many pillows do you sleep with?

Ideally two.

What’s the longest you’ve gone without sleep (and why)?

1,5 day I think. Because of thoughts or just doing things instead of sleeping and having to go to school the next day.

What’s the tallest building you’ve been to the top in?

I can’t remember right now. Time to visit the Eiffel Tower!

Update on TEDx

TEDx (1).jpg

A month ago I announced being part of a TEDx team here in Paris and preparing an event in May. Back then, we had only revealed one speaker. Now we have changed venue (to a really beautiful one!) and revealed 8 out of 9 speakers. It’s time for an update.

Why is TEDxIHEParis Unique?

The very special thing about TEDxIHEParis is that it’s the only TEDx event in Paris which is fully in English. The team is very international. We come from different cultures and countries, have different religions and different sexual orientations. And trust me, the event will reflect this diversity. The idea is also to have speakers from all of the world’s corners sharing their global ideas with the audience, which we believe will also be a fun mix. The audience will of course contain of lovely French people, but also expats, students and other international people living in or visiting Paris. Paris is actually one of the cities in the world with most international students and we want them to be able to enjoy a TEDx event fully with us.

The Speakers

Read more about their biographies and talks at http://www.tedxiheparis.fr/speakers/

The Venue

We decided to change the venue to the gorgeous Théâtre de la Madeleine in the 8th arrondissement of Paris. It’s a beautiful, glamorous theater which will definitely set the mood at May 21st!

teatre.jpg

How am I involved?

I try to assist where I’m needed and I try to be a consistent support to the organizer. What I focus on, though, is content management. I run the Twitter– and the Instagram accounts. I also write the newsletter which is sent out every second Thursday morning. You can sign up at www.tedxiheparis.fr 🙂

Want to Attend and Join us on the Journey to Change the World?

The event is held from 14 PM to 19 PM  Saturday May 21st in the heart of Paris, France. Tickets are still available at www.tedxiheparis.fr/book-your-tickets. After the event there is also a possibility to join us at a networking after party at Belushi’s Gare du Nord!

Attend the event on Facebook for updates; https://www.facebook.com/events/1677223675860068/

Hope to see you there!

Get To Know Me – Part 1

Get to know me - Part 1.jpg

Dear readers, who’s behind these posts can sometimes be unclear. I don’t take many selfies and I don’t share too much personal information. I got the idea of answering get to know me-questions and found a list of a 100 questions (!). I’ll split it up into 4 parts. After a hundred questions you should have a pretty idea of what I’m like 😉

Who is your hero?

I have a few, but let’s stick to my mother who brought me up to a good girl, all by herself.

If you could live anywhere, where would it be?

I want to live in Germany, the UK, the US and Australia. But if I had to pick one place for the rest of my life, I would say Sweden or France for now.

What is your biggest fear?

To lose someone I love.

What is your favorite family vacation?

London!

What would you change about yourself if you could?

I would like to say I like the way I am. But I know I’m not perfect. I would like to be able to open up more easily, at least to the people who deserve it.

What really makes you angry?

False people, infidelity and injustice.

What motivates you to work hard?

My childhood, my critics and my partner.

What is your favorite thing about your career?

That it’s moving closer and closer towards my dream of being a full time entrepreneur!

What is your biggest complaint about your job?

That some of it I have to do mostly because I have to and not because I want to. (Living alone in Paris is expensive!)

What is your proudest accomplishment?

That I saved up and moved to France all by myself at the age of 19.

What is your child’s proudest accomplishment?

Don’t have any children and won’t have until a few years! 😉

What is your favorite book to read?

I don’t usually re-read books, but the first two to pop up in my head is ‘Drömliv’ in Swedish and ‘The Compound Effect’.

What makes you laugh the most?

My weird friends and my very special partner. And sometimes viral videos.

What was the last movie you went to? What did you think?

I saw The Grimsby Brothers and it was of course hilarious. I mean, it’s Sasha Cohen Baron!

What did you want to be when you were small?

I’ve had so many dream jobs. Up until now; artist, hair dresser, pop star, fashion designer, popstar again, marketing manager and finally from the age of 16 until now, entrepreneur.

What does your child want to be when he/she grows up?

Still don’t have children. But whatever they want to do, they can! (Unless it’s illegal)

If you could choose to do anything for a day, what would it be?

Hm… Maybe take the train to London and enjoy the English spring?

What is your favorite game or sport to watch and play?

Anything that involves dancing. That’s the only “sport” I want to do!

Would you rather ride a bike, ride a horse, or drive a car?

I’m sorry, but drive a car. I love them all, but I especially love cars and the speed they come up in.

What would you sing at Karaoke night?

ABBA together with some fellow Swedes and be totally embarrassing!

What two radio stations do you listen to in the car the most?

I don’t ride in a car much and I don’t listen to the radio either, but when I do, currently it’s FUN/FG in France or RIX fm/Mix Megapol in Sweden.

Which would you rather do: wash dishes, mow the lawn, clean the bathroom, or vacuum the house?

Vacuum the house, quick and easy!

If you could hire someone to help you, would it be with cleaning, cooking, or yard work?

Cleaning. The rest is pretty fun.

If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Another hard one.. Something Italian like pasta bolognese or Lasagna.

Who is your favorite author?

I don’t have one, but I used to love Meg Cabot, Jacqueline Wilson and Katarina Von Bredow. I used to looove romantic teenage novels.

To be continued in Part 2!

Twenty

Twenty.jpgSome accomplishments and experiences in my the last few years;

  • At 16 I read my first personal development book and it changed my life
  • At 16 I got into my dream school
  • At 17 I met social innovators that are nationally known in Sweden
  • At 19 I registered my first company
  • At 19 I moved abroad by myself
  • At 19 I moved to my own apartment and payed rent and bills all by myself
  • At 19 I attended my first TEDx and became a part of a TEDx team
  • At 20 I have loads of international friends I communicate with regularly
  • At 20 I have had 10 jobs and 6 internships
  • At 20 I speak 4 languages (two fluently)

The second half of my teenage was the most evolving one. At 16 I had a switch that turned me from shy girl and insecure to a tough, flirtatious, proud and confident woman. At 17 I was growing my network and exploring my creative side plus getting in contact with so many cool people like nationally known entrepreneurs. At 18 I grew even more as woman and adult, had one of the best years of my life where I did so many fun things. At 19 I grew the most – I graduated and experienced a new form of freedom by moving abroad by myself. I developed in many domains – career, relationships, spiritually etc.

And today I’m 20. A new era. A decade that will be so special. The decade where I build my career, build stability to my life, accomplish great goals and even start my own family. I’m so blessed to have experienced all that I have, I’m blessed to be alive and I’m so excited for the twenties.

Entering my twenties, I have a strong feeling of wanting to focus on what matters. This has always been me, but even stronger now. Yesterday I told my friend; “I wanna have real people, travel, delicious food, creative career and fun parties 😛”. And it’s true. I wish that my twenties and the rest of life is full of true love, amazing experiences and endless opportunities.

Thank you to those who has wished me a happy birthday so far. You’re the absolute best!

I’m still young though… 😉

Friday April 15th

Friday April 15th.png

Yesterday I tried to take photos throughout the day to let you “follow me around”. Here’s what it resulted in;

As soon as I got up I had a glass of fresh water. This always makes me feel more awake and good. To get me in a peaceful state of mind, I put on one of my favorite channels for meditation – JBittersweet. This doesn’t just help me feel more calm and peaceful but also increases my oxygen intake as I breathe deeper. I follow this up with visualization of my quarterly goals. I read every “statement” out load and picture it in front of me with closed eyes. When I’m done I overview my weekly goals to get an idea on what to focus on during the day.

After breakfast and shower, I treated myself some home made body oil as I’m not so into my current lotion. Easily made with olive oil (coconut is another great alternative) and one or more essential oils. I chose gardenia for this one. The skin gets sooo soft.

13022419_1334963693186809_1525886983_n

After getting dressed and ready, I walked a few minutes in the sun to Parc Monceau in the 8th arrondissement of Paris. There I met two friends for a chat, coffee, crêpe and walk. This park is lovely with ruins and green grass. It’s so wonderful to have the spring here with sunshine almost every day.

12992213_1334963646520147_1013131248_n.jpg

After a cafe crème and a crêpe Nutella, I was ready to sit down and work for a few hours. Got a lot of writing and designing done especially – and also some business development for my freelance business and this blog.

After many hours of work, I closed the computer and tried to create a nice Friday dinner + drinks look. As it’s my birthday tomorrow, and I’ve decided to postpone the celebration a few weeks, my friends still wanted to take me out for dinner. We went to Belleville which is very famous for its Asian restaurants everywhere. We ended up at Gao Min and we had a lovely time. Moved on to drinks at a bar close by and talked to both Brits and a very cute but uncomfortable dog. I don’t think he enjoyed the buzz as much as his human.

The group of four split in two and two and went to different parties. I enjoyed lounge house, punch and two fellow Swedes from midnight to morning, at La Rotonde in Stalingrad. A taxi home and a cozy, welcoming bed. That way my Friday.

I will try to do these more if it’s appreciated!
